Europeans Were High On Drugs 3,000 Years Ago, Study Finds
Archaeologists have discovered the first direct evidence of human consumption of hallucinogenic drugs in Europe some 3,000 years ago.
Researchers analyzed strands of “ritually buried” hair from a cave, finding the presence of the hallucinogenic atropine, scopolamine and ephedrine, believed to be used as drugs at the time. The discovery confirms that hallucinogens were taken deliberately.
