Rare Deep-Sea Encounter With A Giant Phantom Jellyfish In Monterey Bay
Scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute captured rare footage of a giant phantom jellyfish nearly a kilometer below the ocean's surface.
The elusive creature has only been observed about 100 times since its discovery in 1899. With a bell measuring over a meter across and oral arms that can grow over 10 meters long, the giant phantom jellyfish has a mostly unknown legacy that scientists are still studying.
It’s incredible how much the unknown lurks beneath the surface.
